School run style – my perfect denim dress from Warehouse

Style

It’s been about five months since I last wrote a fashion post. I don’t often have spare money to go clothes shopping for me, so these style posts are few and far between.

But I’m back with a brand new outfit, purchased last week in Warehouse in Cardiff’s St David’s shopping centre. The response to my last few style posts was so supportive and positive, I thought I’d share this outfit with you too.Warehouse Fashion Cardiff Mummy Says cut

I absolutely love this denim button shift dress, £45, and floral print blouse, £45, both from Warehouse. I wore them to the pub on Friday with some of my girlfriends and got so many compliments.

The compliments really need to go to Gemma and Nic, however, two wonderful ladies who work in Warehouse Cardiff. They gave me so much fashion advice when I popped into the store last week, suggesting outfits and pushing me out of my comfort zone, getting me to try on things I probably wouldn’t have picked up myself, but also being honest with me when something didn’t suit me, or the size was wrong.

As I’ve said on my blog previously, I spent the best part of six years either pregnant or breastfeeding and being limited by what I could wear. Now I’m no longer in that zone, my body has changed so much, shopping is a lot harder than it used to be because I’m still learning what suits me.

It’s also not always easy to combine style with practicality. I want to look good but I don’t want my clothes to restrict me when it comes to running around after my children.

Last time I wrote about all of this on my blog I was so nervous about putting myself ‘out there’ like this, but so many of you told me you felt the same when it comes to style when you’re a mum. I’m certainly not the only one who has no idea where to look for fashion inspiration. The fashion media seems to ignore busy mums.

Gemma and Nic really understood my needs and advised me to pick items that are versatile. And that’s certainly true about both of these items.

The blouse looks great tucked into my black Primark jeans and my Tesco denim skirt, both of which featured in this post.

The denim dress looks fantastic over the striped jersey top, £29 from Warehouse, as well as over my Primark red blouse, which featured here, and Oasis mustard jumper, in the post above.

I feel these two items have given a new lease of life to some of my wardrobe faithfuls that I was getting a little bit bored of wearing.

I would certainly never want any mum to feel pressured about what she should wear. But I know from my previous posts that a lot of us feel stuck in a rut when it comes to fashion. I also know that if I feel good about what I’m wearing, I’m a happier and more contented me. This one outfit has given me so much confidence. I love it!

  2. I haven’t thought of shopping in Warehouse in forever- I do love the top- and the combination really suits you! You’re right, it is so difficult to find out what’s out there when so much media is focused on a different lifestyle.

  3. God i haven’t shopped at Warehouse since I was a teenager! Denim dresses are a little risky but you pull it off so well, its definitely not something I could pull off! Also that blouse is gorgeous, i’m a bit obsessed with them at the moment! x

  4. You look stunning. I love that outfit. It is perfect mix of stylish and practical. And I love the fact that both the dress and blouse are so versatile. Versatility is definitely something I look for in clothes now I am a mum. But you are so right that it is really hard to know what suits you after you have had children. Your body changes so much and I really struggled to recognise the figure I now had and to know what suited it. I am sure it is problem that all mums have. A great post. Hugs Lucy xxxx

  5. I love the whole outfit, you look great! Totally something I would wear, the blouse is really pretty. I haven’t visited Warehouse for years but I will be having a snoop online now! 🙂 xx

  6. Lovely outfit Cathryn. Denim is so versatile isn’t it? I’m quite tempted by a pinafore style dress myself. Might have to do a bit of online browsing 😉
