School run style: what four South Wales mums are wearing

I’ve been overwhelmed by the response to the fashion posts I’ve recently been running on Cardiff Mummy Says. I had no idea so many mums felt like I did and have been touched by all your messages.

I certainly don’t want to put any pressure on mums that they have to look or dress a certain way. Far from it. However, like a lot of mums, I spent years in and out of maternity and breast-feeding friendly clothes, and making do with badly-fitting clothes in between. My body changed so much and I’d definitely lost my way when it came to what I was wearing (which is just embarrassing considering I used to write about fashion as part of my job!) and it was getting me really down because I felt so frumpy and mumsy.

It can be really hard to find your sense of style again after having children and I found it difficult to know where to turn for inspiration, as none of the usual fashion publications feature busy mums wearing regular high street clothes that look good but are practical for life with young children.

And so, I set about searching the shops for a few kid-friendly outfits that made me feel good too. You can read all of my fashion posts here.

However, as I said last time, my bank balance has decreed that my shopping spree is over for a little while (sad face), so I’ve enlisted the help of some of my gorgeous blogging mummy friends, who have kindly shared an outfit from their wardrobe. I know some of them were a little bit nervous about appearing on Cardiff Mummy Says, but I’m sure you’ll agree they are all beautiful mummas who combine looking good with the practicalities of looking after children.

Alana Perrin is a journalist and author of the Baby Holiday blog. She has a keen eye for fashion – although it’s usually her toddler son Santino featuring in style posts on her blog. He is the best dress little boy I know with such a fantastic array of outfits.

Alana wears denim dress from Zara, striped top from Top Shop, tights from Marks and Spencer, and shoes from Top Shop. Her bag is by Mulberry, lucky girl!

Leanne Cornelius charts her life as a mummy to seven-month-old Aria at A Slice Of My Life Wales.
She says this is one of her favourite outfits for soft play and mummy and baby groups, especially the kimono which hides “any embarrassing flashing incidents when bending over wearing ill-fitting post pregnancy jeans”.

Leanne wears black top and kimono from the Matalan Clearance Store in Newport; jeggings from Primark and trainers from New Look.

Mum of three Alina Davies blogs at Cookies and Cwtches. She says she loved this dress so much (£12.99 from H&M) that she also bought it in grey. “It’s the perfect mummy fabric,” she says, “because it doesn’t show any creases.”

Alina wears mustard dress, £12.99 from H&M; black tights from John Lewis; shoes from Next, bag from Accessorise. The scarf was a present from Australia.

Debbie Johnson blogs at An Organised Mess about her life as a working mum of three, married to a stay-at-home dad, as well as her love of theatre and baking. She says this dress from Primark, priced just £6, has been such a brilliant buy as it’s great for warmer summer days or layered for the autumn.

Debbie wears dress, £6 from Primark, denim jacket and leggings from ASOS, and boots from Hush Puppies.

Don’t they all look gorgeous? Thanks ladies for giving us mummies some inspiration.
