Santa’s Grotto and the Elf Trail are back at the Morgan Quarter in Cardiff every Saturday in the run up to Christmas.

We joined Jolly the wonderfully bubbly and enthusiastic Elf to help search for five cheeky little elves who have escaped from the grotto and are hiding around the beautiful historic Morgan and Royal Arcades. We got a sticker for each elf that we found and heard more about how they help in the run up to Christmas – and then got to meet Santa in his magical grotto. There was plenty of time for a chat and the children each got a small gift.

After that, we stopped for the most amazing hot chocolates at Mrs Potts before some Christmas shopping at some of our favourite independent stores, including Spillers Records, the brand new sock shop, Plant + Pot where I picked up my annual Christmas poinsettia, Galactic Attic, and Wally’s Delicatessen, which has the loveliest array of locally produced and artisan food as well as a selection of craft ales and spirits.

We love the arcades at Christmas time. The decorations and lights are so pretty and festive and the shops are great if you’re looking for something a little different, or for teens and tweens who have no clue what they want.

You can book Santa and the Elf Trail for £5 per child with proceeds going to Tŷ Hafan. Visits take place on Saturdays 6, 13 and 20 December, from 10.30am-3pm. This event is expected to sell out so book quickly! Visit the Morgan Quarter website for details.
