Earlier this month, we took the My Green Choices Quiz from Climate Action Wales to find out what small changes we could make to help create a greener, cleaner Wales.

The My Green Choices Quiz asks you eight questions about your lifestyle, such as what kind of vehicle you drive and how often you fly, and then gives you a tailored list of actions that will help tackle climate change.

I took the quiz with my children – we were pleased to see we’re already making lots of planet-friendly choices, such as recycling, using up food waste, using refillable bottles and mugs, buying second hand, and walking or using public transport where we can, but we could think about buying more local and seasonal produce, and reducing the ampunt of packaging coming into our home.

We’re have spent the last month putting the suggestions into action over the next few weeks. Read on to see how we got on, or watch our video reel here.

Simple changes you can make to help reduce climate change

Our first stop was our local refill shop, the brilliant Iechyd Da in Whitchurch. We bought delicious granola, pick and mix chocolate coated fruit and nuts, and locally-made chutney. My children loved pouring, weighing and measuring everything and as we took our own containers nothing went in the bin.

Next, we headed to Deri Stores in Rhiwbina and got a basket filled with fresh fruit and veg for just over £12. Choosing loose produce meant we only bought what we needed, which means less chance of food waste, and using our reusable mesh bags meant zero packaging.

Our loaded basket was also cheaper than if we’d bought the same items at the supermarket, proving that greener choices often save you money too.
