40+ family friendly events in and around Cardiff for February half term 2022

I put off writing this half term events guide because I was waiting to see how things were looking with all the Covid restrictions. As I’m sure you can imagine, they take a while to put together so I didn’t want to do all the work for no reason. Well, things were looking good in terms of everything going ahead normally… and then along came Storm Eunice. So, disclaimer here, events this weekend, especially outdoor events, may be affected. Please check ahead with organisers.

All being well, there’s plenty going on for families. I’ve rounded up everything I can find but do let me know anything I’ve missed in the comments on the Cardiff Mummy Says Facebook page.

There’s loads of theatre shows for children aged seven and under; there’s outdoor and nature events; plus Cardiff Science Festival and the Winter of Wellbeing are both running events across the city.

Most events need advance booking these days, so do click on the links included for more information.

All events are subject to change or cancellation so please check ahead with organisers and make sure to follow all Covid measures. Also with severe wind warnings in place, some events may be postponed or cancelled.

For more ideas on family-friendly days out and events in and around Cardiff, follow the Cardiff Mummy Says Facebook page or Cardiff Mummy Says on Instagram – I share a lot here especially in my Stories, Story Highlights and Reels.

Thanks for supporting Cardiff Mummy Says. It makes a massive difference in getting this post seen by other families if you give it a like, share or a comment on my social media channels.

This guide is kindly sponsored by The Red Dragon Centre, which is looking forward to welcoming visitors over half term.

The Cardiff Bay entertainment complex is home to the Odeon cinema, where big screen highlights this half term include Sing 2 and Uncharted. If you fancy 10 pin bowling at Hollywood Bowl, then there’s 25% off if you book in advance and bowl before 11am. You can also stay for a bite to eat at restaurants including Bella Italia, Five Guys and Volcane Japanese.

Parking is free for customers at The Red Dragon Centre – spend over £6 to enjoy six hours of free parking. You’ll need to provide your vehicle registration along with proof of purchase to the relevant restaurant/cinema/bowling. See the website for full terms and conditions

And if you visit on Wednesday 23 February, you can meet an extra special visitor, as Wales’ very own baby dragon gets ready to spread some patriotic cheer with the Six Nations in full swing and in the run up to St David’s Day.

This incredibly cute and enchanting creature will be meeting visitors inside the Centre on the hour at 1pm, 2pm and 3pm.

While he’s not yet mastered the ability to breathe fire or fly, he’s making spectacular progress so you might spot just him flapping his wings and blowing smoke out of his nostrils!

To keep his cheeky ways in check, Merlin the magical wizard will also be joining the fiery friend.
