Paid collaboration with Mermaid Quay

Monsters are taking over Mermaid Quay this half term with lots of fun – and FREE – activities for families.

We headed to Cardiff Bay today to hunt out monsters, design some of our own and take part in some themed games. We even met a big orange monster, thankfully more friendly than fearsome.

You can see more in this reel on the Cardiff Mummy Says Instagram channel.

First up was brunch in Hub Box, which was such a lovely and relaxing experience with the winter sun shining in through the glass front of the restaurant and friendly, happy staff making us feel really welcome. It was vegan and veggie breakfasts for my and my eldest two (£10.50 each) plus a bacon bap from the children’s menu for my youngest (£4.95). With a berry tea for me and apple juices for the children, our bill was around £40, which felt really reasonable.

From there, we headed off in search of the monsters hiding in the windows of various venues around Mermaid Quay. Visitors can pick up a treasure map and entry form from any of the venues with a clue in the windows or from the centre management offices (near The Glee Club), or download one online.

Return your completed form to the special post box to be within a chance of winning a £50 voucher to a venue of your choice at Mermaid Quay.

The treasure hunt runs until Sunday 5 November.

Also running until Sunday 5 November, is the design your own monster competition. Again, pick up an entry sheet from the centre management offices or download one from the website and print it off at home. Let your creative wild side run free and design your own monster, popping it in the special post box for a chance to win one of two £10 Cadwaladers gift cards.

There’s also special monster activities taking place this week too. Today we got to try our hand at knocking down the spooky tin cans as well as eating donuts from strings without using our hands.

Mermaid Quay Monster Takeover

Tomorrow, visitors can meet and greet the monster mascots, head on a fun and interactive monster hunt, and make and take a pot of spooky slime to take home.

On Wednesday, there’s the chance to meet a friendly blue monster, to have your face painted and a free craft workshop where children can make and take home monster themed hand gloves.

You can make a day of it by heading to Techniquest (book in advance) or catching a film at Everyman cinema, a trip on a boat around the Bay, or even a walk across the barrage.

See the Mermaid Quay website for full details of the monster activities taking place this half term.
