Sharing my #preciousmoments in aid of Tŷ Hafan: Santa

As regular readers of Cardiff Mummy Says will know, I’ve been taking part in Precious Moments, a campaign run by Tŷ Hafan. It’s to help raise awareness of the work the children’s hospice for Wales does in supporting children with illnesses and medical conditions that mean they won’t survive to adulthood, and their families.

Sadly, Tŷ Hafan can’t give the gift of time to many of the families they look after. But they can give them the gift of precious moments to enjoy together.  And so, each week throughout November and December, Tŷ Hafan has been asking people to share photos of their own precious moments on social media to raise awareness of the work that it does and to help encourage donations towards the £4m it needs to raise each year to provide its services. I’ve already shared photos which to me represent excited, cwtch, and inspire.

This week is the last week of the campaign and the photo I’m sharing represents the word Santa.

This photo was taken when Little Miss E, my now six-year-old eldest child, was three weeks old. It was her very first Christmas and my first Christmas as a mummy.

The Christmas before had been a difficult one for me and my husband as we’d just had a miscarriage. The whole festive season was an emotional blur with a lot of tears and sadness. I put on a fake smile and tried to be brave, but it was so hard as inside I was breaking.

The next Christmas was such a contrast. When Baby E (with a little help from Cardiff Daddy) presented me with a Mummy mug and socks, it made me burst into tears of happiness. On the surface, it might just look like another little baby wearing a Santa outfit, but every time I look at it, it reminds me of how lucky I am. This photo is such a precious moment to me and my little Santa Baby was everything I could have wanted for Christmas and so much more besides.
