As a family, we’re trying to raise £1,000 for Tŷ Hafan this year by taking part in a series of running events. The first of these is Wales’s first Bubble Rush event at Coopers Field on Saturday 16 June. And we’d love for you to join us.

Tŷ Hafan is an incredible charity based in Sully, not far from where we live in Cardiff. It is one of the UK’s leading paediatric palliative care charities and offers care to children and support for their families, throughout Wales.

If you think this means they simply provide a place where children can come to die, you couldn’t be further from the truth. Tŷ Hafan offers comfort, care and support to life-limited children (children not expected to live beyond the age of 18), young people and their families in the hospice, in the community and in their home so they can make the most of the time they have left together.

They allow parents and carers to relax and recharge their batteries. And they make sure the needs of brothers and sisters are never forgotten.

Tŷ Hafan needs to raise £4 million every year so that it can provide its services to families in Wales for free. You can read more about Tŷ Hafan here.

Having supported Tŷ Hafan on previous fundraising campaigns – such as their incredible Snow Dogs trail and their Precious Moments campaign – this year we want to do something even bigger.

You can more read about the events we will be taking part in here including the Barry Island 10K for me and 2K for my children in August; and the Cardiff Half Marathon (my first half marathon) for me and the family fun run for my children in October.

First up is the Tŷ Hafan Bubble Rush at Coopers Field in Cardiff on Saturday 16 June. This is a family-friendly 5K run which will see four bubble stations blasting participants with coloured foam.

It’s the first time Bubble Rush has come to Cardiff and participants can run, jog, walk, dance or toddle through a 5km course, passing through four Bubble Stations where canons pump out coloured foam to create a 4ft deep bubble bath. The event is not timed, the course is family friendly, pushchairs and wheelchairs are more than welcome and everyone gets a medal and a t-shirt.

You can see more of what to expect from the Bubble Rush with these two great videos.

Jodie Harris, Events Manager at Tŷ Hafan says the charity is very excited to be hosting Wales’s first Bubble Rush. “Excitement is bubbling up around this event, and we’re looking for participants who can be the very first to find out there’s no place like foam whilst at the same time raising vital funds to support children with life limiting conditions.

“This is a 5k course where all ages are welcome and it is very family orientated. You can run, skip, walk or jog through the course where large cannons pump out coloured foam bubbles. The fun will also not end at the finish line as we ask our participants to join us back at the “bubble village” for music, games, children’s entertainment and food and drink.”

Entry is £18 each and £15 per person for groups of five or more. Ty Hafan suggests that participants aim to raise £50 sponsorship and £20 for under 16s – although every penny raised is appreciated.
