Cardiff Children’s Literature Festival is back! After going virtual in 2021, the kids lit fest is returning with an in person event, taking place in Cardiff the weekend of Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 April, 2023.

Two of Cardiff’s most iconic venues, City Hall and Cardiff Castle, will play host to the festival, which will include storytelling and book reading, writing and drawing workshops, craft activities, quizzes and games, and more.

The 2023 festival will bring together a spell-binding series of colourful characters and stupendous stories, ready to inspire and entertain your budding book fans.

Cardiff Children's Literature Festival

Aimed predominantly at primary school children aged 3-11, since 2013, the festival’s goal has been to encourage a lifelong love of reading in young people, with an exciting ensemble of literary events in both English and Welsh, hosted by incredible guest authors and illustrators.

This year, there’s a packed programme of events, with tickets priced at £5 per person per event.

Celebrate 30 years of Horrible Histories with illustrator, Martin Brown. Get a beastly introduction to the adventures of 511-year-old Ebenezer Tweezer and orphan Bethany with Jack Meggitt-Phillips. Climb aboard a pirate ship and set sail on a riveting adventure with Iszi Lawrence. Learn about life-sized nature and fascinating animal facts with Sophy Henn; or go bookwandering with Anna James, as she tells all about her latest Pages & Co adventure The Treehouse Library.

Welsh sessions in 2023 include Pam? and Mira a’r Dant with author Luned Aaron, as well as returning festival favourite, Ble Mae Boc?, with the Lit Fest Crew’s very own illustrious illustrator, Huw Aaron. Plus, discover the magical woodland world of Criw’r Coed with Carys Haf Glyn.

Tickets are limited so it’s best to book in advance to avoid disappointment. However, any remaining tickets will be available from the venue on the day. Plus you will also be able to buy books from all authors taking part in the event and meet them afterwards for book signings and photographs. All children under 12 must be accompanied by a paying adult.
