Focus on YOUR needs for once!

Ah, as a working mum of two small children I can totally relate to this article about finding time for a yoga practice, or indeed, anything that involves prioritising myself. (Sorry, still having trouble with hyper-linking.)

I am reminded of a conversation I had on my yoga teacher training course when we discussed the need to put yourself first in order to be of use to everyone around you. It’s rather like when you’re on an aeroplane and during the safety demonstration they tell you to put your oxygen mask on first before helping those around you.

It’s so easy when we are busy and have responsibilities to others to forget about our own needs. Yet by recognising our own needs we can better fulfil our responsibilities to others, whether that is work, housework, parenting duties, caring for others and so on, and feel less resentful about doing so.

Not that I ever feel resentful about parenting, as it is such a wonderful blessing, but I am in a far better position to deal with toddler tantrums when I’m all blissed out from my yoga practice.
