The South Wales bookshop that’s just for children – Griffin Books in Penarth

Did you know there’s a book shop in the South Wales coastal town of Penarth that’s just for children? Award-winning Griffin Books in Penarth have expanded and opened a brand new store dedicated to children’s literature, with hundreds of new and classic titles, from tots to teens.

The store is lovely and spacious so there’s plenty of room if you’ve got a buggy. There’s even a cosy sofa and reading corner so children can have a look at books before they decide what to buy.

If need guidance and recommendations, the friendly staff are on hand with suggestions for all ages.

We spent around half an hour browsing, with my children each coming away with a new book.

The new books my children chose at Griffin Books in Penarth

My 11 year old chose The Sad Ghost Club by Lize Meddings, the first in the graphic novel series about a secret society for people who don’t think they belong. His 13 year old brother opted for Wolf Road, a history of our lifetime through the adventure of a girl and her wolf, written by Professor Alice Roberts, presenter of Digging for Britain. My 15 year old chose Gayle Forman’s After Life, the bestselling Young Adult novel about a girl who reappears seven years after she died. Perfect reading for the May half term and I’m very much looking forward to hearing their thoughts on their new books.

And, once you’ve sorted the kids out, you can pop next door for some grown up books at Griffin Books’ original shop. Here, you’ll find a wonderful selection of fiction and non-fiction books including exclusive editions and copies signed by the authors.

Also, look out for author events, which Griffin Books runs regularly throughout the year, for adults and children. They have a monthly children’s book club, for kids (ages nine to 12) and teens (12 to 15). All the details are on their website.
