Here we are on the final day of term, with most schools in and near Cardiff finishing today ready for the two week Easter break. Easter Sunday falls on 5 April this year, with bank holidays on Good Friday 3 April and Easter Monday 2 April.

If you’re looking for ideas to entertain the family, there’s plenty going on, with everything from Easter trails and a chance to meet the Easter bunny to theatre shows, crafty activities and animal encounters.

I’ve rounded up everything I can find. Do add anything else in the comments on any of my social media channels.

Explore Dyffryn’s beautifully restored gardens for this year’s Easter adventure trail. Pick up a trail map and bunny ears on arrival, follow the trail through tackling 10 hands-on, egg-citing activities along the way, from marble egg runs, chicken croquet and dress-up fun to exciting new games for 2026. 

Dyffryn Gardens also has two large wooden playgrounds, plus you can follow a self-guided Blossom Watch trail, and visit The Other Bennet Sister exhibition (open Fridays to Mondays), celebrating the costumes, craft and creativity behind the BBC’s elegant new period production.

Get a fascinating behind‑the‑scenes look at how Greenmeadow cares for and monitors its eggs in this candleing and handling chicken egg sessions. Learn how candling works, and get hands‑on with this part of farm life. Explore the wonderful world of wetlands with Gozzle the gosling, from Julia Donaldson and Sara Ogilvie’s new picture book. Follow the interactive trail to discover what it takes for your fuzzy little friend to become a grown-up goose. From her first nibble to her first splash, right up to the day she flies away on her first migration. Along the way, you’ll strike some funny animal poses, hop along stepping stones to practice your balance, and seek out a meal using your sense of smell. For an additional £4, you can add a Gozzle activity pack, filled with games, puzzles and  sheet of stickers. You can also become an animal helper in Gozzle’s Vet Check, where you’ll nurse your toy goose back to health (10am-10.30am/2.30pm-3.00pm during school holidays and weekends).

Free entry to the museum, £7 to park all day

Eight brightly coloured eggs have been hidden around the museum. Pick up a free trail map from the reception desk and see if you can find them all as you explore the historic buildings, parkland and galleries at St Fagans. Bilingual trail; age guidance 4+.

Plus makers market 28 March-10 April: A showcase of local Welsh crafting talent, including pottery, handmade body products, jewellery, textiles and more.

Pick up a trail map at reception, follow the trail to find the hidden chicks and unscramble the secret code to win a delicious Easter treat.

Monday 30 March-Sunday 12 April

Pick up a free trail sheet from outside the Glee Club and hunt for the colourful Easter eggs around Mermaid Quay. Collect the letters and unscramble them to work out the Easter word. On Good Friday 3 April (12pm-5pm) , visitors can meet the Marvellous Mouse Towns, take part in Easter games and help decorate a giant egg. The Great British Fudge Bus will also be back from Saturday 28 March-Sunday 19 April, selling more than 35 handcrafted fudge flavours.

A free interactive Easter trail, inspired by the beloved story We’re Going On A Bear Hunt.

Swish, splash and squelch your way through a fun-filled adventure. Follow clues and discover surprises along the way. Collect a trail leaflet and themed paper hat from Guest Experiences on the First Floor outside of Bershka and Stradivaris.

Wednesday 1-Saturday 4 April

Pick up a free trail map from Galactic Attic and hunt for 10 Easter eggs hidden in shop windows around the historic Morgan and Royal Arcades, collecting stamps along the way. Once you’ve found all the eggs and collected all the stamps, kids can claim their yummy reward at the final stop. If you’re visiting on Saturday 4 April, look out for the Easter Bunny who will be roaming the arcades, handing out chocolate from a Lucky Dip basket to anyone who finds him.

Gwen the Goose has lost her eggs and needs your help to find them! Pick up a trail pack from the Visitor Centre for just £3 and enjoy a fun family adventure around the site as you follow the clues to help Gwen track down her missing eggs. The Wetlands are free to visit and £5 to park all day (free for RSPB members).

Hunt for the giant Easter Eggs hidden around the park. Collect your quiz sheet from the Visitor Centre, draw the patterns you find on your sheet to win a prize. Entry is £4.50 per child and includes the quiz sheet, crayons and a prize.

Age guidance: 3-9 years, pram and pushchair friendly, running time: 40+ mins. Plus explore Bryngarw Park with more than 100 acres of meadows, gardens, woodlands, trails, a playground and more.

Pick up your interactive Easter hunt sheet from the farm shop and set off on a fun-filled adventure across the lawn. Solve the puzzle, complete the hunt, and return to the shop to collect your special prize.

Gwen John: Strange Beauties is a landmark new exhibition dedicated to one of Wales’ most extraordinary artists. It is the first major collection of her work in more than 40 years, marking 150 years since her birth. Through Edgar’s Eyes, or Trwy Lygaid Edgar in Welsh is a family trail to help 7 to 11 year olds explore the exhibition and learn more about Gwen’s life and career, with imaginative tasks based on various artworks. Tickets need to be booked in advance

See a glowing seven-metre sculpture of the moon hanging in the Museum’s Great Hall entrance. Created by UK artist Luke Jerram, Museum of the Moon features detailed NASA imagery that shows what the moon looks like close up, and is accompanied by a magical soundscape. The famous touring artwort has appeared across the UK and the world, in cathedrals, galleries, museums and other indoor spaces.

A mass art event, as part of the Roman Caerleon Partnership. Be inspired by the amazing Roman amphitheatre to paint, draw, photograph or create art in any way you choose. Complete the work in a day or take your sketches away to finish later. You can then submit your work for a Roman-themed arts exhibition in the Caerleon Roman Museum, as part of Caerleon Open Studios 2026. The deadline for submission is 15 May 2026.

Receive expert tuition and guidance from maille makers Mark Hale and Phil Parkes (winner of Heritage Crafts Wales Maker of the Year 2024) who will demonstrate how to link and rivet rings, enabling you to create a small patch of maille to take home.

Eplore the muddy world inhabited by minibeasts in Bryngarw’s nature garden. This ranger-led hunt will get you up close to a range of creepy crawlies including worms, slugs, millipedes and beetles.

Grab a net, tray and magnifying glass and get to know the fascinating underwater life of Bryngarw’s ponds. A ranger will help you identify creatures that lurk beneath the surface, from tadpoles to water boatmen.

Lido Ponty is open for the Easter holidays with three pools, inflatables and activities, and right next to the huge playground in Ynysangharad Park. The pool will be heated to 28˚.

A one-act lyrical and rhythmic play that explores girlhood and friendship in all its beauty and complexity. The story follows three childhood best friends; Lauren, Ange, and Cas, who reunite on August 13th, 2024, exactly five years after their friendship fell apart at the hands of jealousy during Ange’s results day party. Though they share the same space once more, they return as very different people, each carrying unresolved pain, guilt, and resentment. Theis is a ‘work in progress’ performance present4ed by Platfform Company, an initiative aimed at supporting actors aged 18-30 taking the step from youth theatre to professional performances.
